Despite mass flooding in the region, Estes Park’s annual Elk Festival — which celebrates the fall elk rut — is still scheduled for this weekend, according to The Estes Park Trail Gazette. If you’ve ever wanted to look an elk in the face while dining on “distinctive elk cuisine,” this may be the festival for you.

Months after the Black Forest Fire, complaints have emerged regarding the efficiency of radios in fighting fire. In fact, The Colorado Springs Gazette reports Black Forest Fire Department Chief Bob Harvey had to use three radios just to communicate with different firefighting forces during the blaze.

And, in flood news, experts are still debating whether the rain event that saw creeks swell two weeks ago was a “1,000-year event.” Either way, it seems likely many of the researchers won’t see a similar event in their lifetimes.
